When I grew up, my parents were very involved in our community. So involved, that when I was 8 years old, my parents made me participate in a speech contest. I was the youngest competitor the group had ever seen.
By the time I was 9, I won first place. I worked really hard, and I beat a group of high schoolers. It was pretty amazing.
Being involved with writing and public speaking has made me who I am today. That's why Podium is so important for the youth of Richmond. That's why I stuck around for 3 years. First, as a programs intern. Next, a designer. Then a social media manager.
My time culminated in a role of communications and event management.
“I would describe Kayleigh as an incredibly competent and creative professional. I have had the pleasure of working with Kayleigh for three years. Kayleigh began at Podium as an intern. I immediately recognized her potential and hired her following the completion of her internship. Her ability to manage multiple projects is unlike any I’ve seen. Kayleigh manages staff effortlessly, is a great communicator, and has raised the profile of the organization beyond my expectations. I would summarize Kayleigh as someone who has a high facility for concepting and brand creation as well as design implementation with an excellent attention for detail, and who can create copy that inspires, educates, and entertains.”
Representing.
Whether it be an event, press coverage, or day-to-day introductions to Podium's impact, I was able to give life to Podium's message of self-expression in many ways.
Managing.
All types of print jobs happened during my time at Podium, as well as major online publications and donations. I made lots of these things possible, all while managing other interns and volunteers to get it done.
Making.
Making introductions to Podium at events, making connections with donors/volunteers, making lasting memories with the youth we serve. That's what Podium is all about.
